TYLAR SMITH — UP CLOSE AND PERSONAL
Q: Please introduce yourself to the readers and how you first got into this field of work –and who were some of your influences growing up?
Hi, my name is Tylar Smith. I’m 13 years old and I’m a singer/songwriter from Sydney Australia. I have loved music and singing since I was very young. I even used to, (and still do) hum and sing while I am eating. Which annoys everyone around me, to this day! I have always liked older music but don’t mind some of the new stuff.
Q: What kind of training have you had, if any?
I started singing training around the age of 7 and have continued to progress with my training and performing. I have been in a few different Musical Theatre shows around Sydney and won a few competitions and the last 12 months I have really knuckled down and worked hard. I am training daily and spending my weekends singing, writing and recording songs with my Vocal Coach Nathan Large. He’s a champion.
Q: What has been your favourite project to work on so far?
I really throw myself into anything I do. My parents are like, if you commit to something, you give it everything you’ve got. So I do and I guess it makes things more enjoyable. But I think if I had to pick one… Recording the video for my song “FREE” would definitely be up there.
Q: What sports do you enjoy watching?
I'm not a huge sports fan but I do love Football.
Q: What has been one of the biggest highlights/achievements of your career?
For me, just recording a song and having it released was an achievement for me. I feel very lucky and grateful to have done it once even. To know I am sharing my music with people is a fantastic feeling. AND anytime I am on stage it feels electric. I just really love it.
Q: If you had a chance to work alongside anybody who would that be?
Musically, 100 percent Elton John. I think he is a genius. So if I got the chance to do that I would definitely take it! I also strongly believe in Anti-Bullying and Anti-Hate campaigns. In life I have experienced bullying and while trying to find my way in the music business I have already experienced some hate and bullying, I am tough and can handle it, but some others may not be, and its never ok. I believe nobody deserves to be bullied OR hated just for being who they are, or the colour they are or for doing something they want to do. So I would love to work alongside anybody, to help bring more awareness and to fight against this huge problem.
Q: What projects do you have coming up?
My next single “FREE” is released at midnight on August 21st 2020 and I think the video for it is released 2 days after that. My album doesn’t have a release date yet but it could be around December.
Q: What are your favourite venues to perform in?
To be honest, I’m happy if there’s an audience and a good sound set up!

Q: How did you come up with the idea for your Music video?
The song “FREE” is about wanting to just fly away from all the problems but knowing you cant. So we really wanted somewhere that was a big open space, and gave a feeling of being high up. And we scouted around and found a cool spot high up in the Blue Mountains which is a beautiful mountain range not to far from Sydney.
Q: Do you have any advice for young music makers like yourself?
I’m still learning and still have a lot to learn but I think the best advice for anyone in life is don’t listen to the haters!
