Q & A with Phil Stoodley on his new single release ‘LONG WAY FROM HOME’
Q: Please introduce yourself to the readers and how you first got into this field of work –and who were some of your influences growing up?
My name is Phil Stoodley, I'm a Kiwi living in Bali, Indonesia as a full-time musician.
I started playing guitar at the age of 16 when I was in high school. Growing up, some of my influences were… The Doors, GnR, Black Sabbath, Led Zep, Lenny Kravitz, Metallica, Slayer.
Q: What kind of training have you had, if any?
No official training.
Q: What has been your favorite project to work on so far?
Tv and film are always exciting.
Q: How did you get the gig?
I have a few friends that are directors in the Tv and film industry. They throw me a bone now and then.
Q: What sports do you enjoy watching?
I'm not much of a sporting person, to be honest. But will always try to catch an All Blacks rugby game if they are playing.
Q: What has been one of the biggest highlights/achievements of your career?
Touring the UK and Europe was a pretty big buzz. Playing alongside Velvet Revolver and meeting some of my childhood heroes.
Q: If you had a chance to work alongside anybody who would that be?
Rick Rubin (producer), Ben Harper, Black Keys, Various EDM producers. Would also be cool to collaborate with some hiphop artists. Im down for anything creatively stimulating.
Q: What projects do you have coming up?
Currently releasing my new single/ video “Long Way From Home”. And I just released an EP called “Sabento Sessions #1” from my side project ‘Shaker Zulu’ You can check it out here:
Q: Who is your inspiration?
Jeff Buckley, Joe Rogan, Led Zep, Jim Morrison, Bill Burr,
Q: What ’s the most interesting thing you’ve read or seen this week?
I'm always listening to Joe Rogan's podcast. Prof David Sinclair podcast was pretty dam interesting. He’s a professor in the Department of Genetics at Harvard Medical School. Yea I’m a sucker for this geek stuff!
Q: What are your favorite venues to perform in?
Outdoor festivals are where I really get a buzz!

Q: How did you come up with the idea for your Music video?
It was a last-minute thing. I was already in Japan at the time. And was lucky to have a friend there that was a professional photographer. He was happy to shoot it.
Q: Do you have any advice for young music makers like yourself?
Work hard… gig hard!
