Netherlands based R&B pop sensation Sharmila has just dropped her latest album. The self-titled album ‘Sharmila’ contains previously written songs and material providing a real variety of styles to listen to.

The 9 track album mixes R&B, Dance and Pop. Containing some of her more known numbers ‘Burning For You (Club Mix)’ — a dance-themed anthem, to R&B, influenced tracks like ‘Respect Your Body’ and ‘Like A Drug?’.

About Sharmila:

Sharmila was interested in performing arts at a young age. During her childhood, she took dance lessons. Later, as her interest in music grew, she took voice lessons. Soon, Sharmila began writing her own songs. Today, her song-writing has taken flight with her second album scheduled to be released this year. Sharmila has also released DNA Damage’ off her upcoming album, which she performed in Portland last year.

As a sought-after artist, Sharmila was the opening artist for the popular American boy band O-Town last year, paving the way for more headlining performances. Stemming from an MTV produced reality show; O-Town had a string of popular hits from 2000–2013 and have now returned to the music scene; Sharmila was honoured to be part of their return.

Q: Tell me about your new Album “Sharmila”

It’s a collection of songs I wrote in various stages of my life.

Q: What is inspiring you musically at the moment?

Currently working on my 2nd album... I think my own life, the world and the universe.

Q: Why the title of this album is self-name?

My album is an expression of me as an artist, that’s why I choose my name Sharmila for the album.

Q: Your music is very personal — how do you go about writing it?

I write about my own life experiences, things I see happen in the world but lyrics also suddenly pop up in my mind along with a melody.

Q: Can you tell us more about your upcoming project(s)?

My second album ‘DNA Damage’ is coming up, I already released the single. Also planning further gigs / touring.

Q: What would people be surprised to learn about you?

I write my own songs and I’m from the Netherlands.

Q: What top 5 tracks have been on your playlist this summer?

80’s and 90’s tracks.

Q: What moment are you most proud of?

Musically that I released my album and a few singles, also when I opened for O Town last year.

Q: Which film has inspired you the most?

I love movies with a sci-fi theme.

Q: If you got the opportunity to remake a classic, which one would you go for?

Somebody’s watching me’ from Rockwell featuring Michael Jackson.
