Interview with RGT An EDM Producer
Q: Please introduce yourself to the readers and how you first got into this field of work –and who were some of your influences growing up?
Hey! I’m RGT, a 25-year-old EDM producer from Norway. I started with music at around 13 years of age, and quickly began to understand how to create different genres. I then started to produce for a small Norwegian record label, making songs for clients and kept that up for quite a while. When I was 22, I launched my artist career which have led to some amazing collaborations. Growing up I took a lot of inspiration from Elliot Berger, Zedd, Illenium and Raw Frequency.
Q: What kind of training have you had, if any?
Everything I know of music is self-taught. A long and grindy process, but very giving.
Q: What has been your favourite project to work on so far?
I think my absolute favourite project has to be “Take You Down” with RØDY, I put so much time and soul into that project and it turned out great. I do have to mention the song that means the most to me which would be “Final Days”, because I’m blessed enough to share this musical passion with my better half Anna Slinning, which delivered amazing vocals on that song.
Q: What artist would you like to collaborate with next?
I would really love a collab with Yelawolf. I just did a song with Kayrae and Rittz that shows I can mix the genres! So, we’ll see, hopefully I might get the opportunity someday.
Q: What sports do you enjoy watching?
I’m not really a sports guy. I do watch the occasional soccer game, but I can’t say I watch any sport.
Q: What has been one of the biggest highlights/achievements of your career?
The song I mentioned with Kayrae and Rittz was quite the achievement, and not to say being contacted by several big labels that wanted my help with production has also been big
Q: Do you think you could improve as an artist?
For sure, you’d be a fool if you thought you are perfect! There is always room for improvement, and I will keep honing my skills until the day I’m below the ground.
Q: What projects do you have coming up?
I’m not too sure right now, there might be a remix coming around soon. I have a lot going on right now and the days don’t have enough hours in them anymore.
Q: Do you have any advice for young music makers like yourself?
Keep working! It is when you feel nothing is happening you have to bring your a-game. Try to get some honest feedback on your music from experienced musicians and turn that feedback into better songs.
Q: What’s the most interesting thing you’ve read or seen this week?
I mean, it must be the Facebook hack that happened this week. That was kind of interesting, watching everyone go off on celebrities' Facebook walls.
Q: What are your favorite venues to perform in?
Festivals, nothing beats a good old dirty festival!
