Q: Please introduce yourself to the readers and what made you want to become a musician?

I am Julian Guba, 23 years old, and I was born in Vienna, Austria. I grew up with parents who had been making music as a hobby for quite a while, so music was always sort of implanted in my head. I started producing quite early, at the age of 11. However, it wasn’t until I was 13 that I was completely sure I wanted to become a professional musician, singing on stage in front of thousands of people and having my music connect with people.

Q: Who has been your most influential teacher or mentor?

Over the years, my biggest influence in my music has been Alan Walker. He was one of the first DJs who inspired me to start producing music in general, and over time, his evolving style has continuously inspired me, and I have learned so much from him.

Q: What are your favourite musical genres, and are there any you dislike?

My favorite genres are definitely Pop and EDM. Anything that falls within that category, I will probably like. However, my musical preferences can vary, and sometimes, I find appeal in various other genres as well. It really depends on whether I like the vibe of a song! I don’t have any genres that I inherently dislike because I believe there can be quality in any kind of music.

Q: What would you say is your greatest weakness as an artist?

Right now, I’d say my greatest weakness would be that I tend to become overly critical of my music once it has been released. I thoroughly enjoy the process of creating a song and releasing it. However, most of the time, once it’s out, I notice numerous mistakes and aspects I could have produced or sung better. On one hand, it’s quite a shame because I find myself being excessively critical of something I created with utmost passion and love. On the other hand, this approach helps me in continuously improving my production quality.

Q: In terms of the overall composition, what is your favorite song and why?

At the moment, my favorite song would be Forget You by FAST BOY and Topic. I really like the production elements and the melody, and it is one of those rare songs all of my friends agree to listen to in the car.

Q: What kind of music artist would you classify yourself as?

A self-made EDM/Pop singer, songwriter and producer.

Q: Who inspired you to be a part of the music industry?

Besides the previously mentioned Alan Walker, Billie Eilish and Lady Gaga have also been great inspirations of mine.

Q: Would you agree that it is very important to learn, study and understand the old music and music history?

While it can be beneficial for music theory, I wouldn’t say it’s extremely crucial, especially considering how music styles have drastically changed in modern times.

Q: Where have you performed? What are your favourite and least favourite venues? Do you have any upcoming shows?

I haven’t had the chance to perform at any venue yet, but I’m eager to do so! I am aiming high, as my biggest dream still is to perform in the Eurovision Song Contest and showcase my talent to all of Europe.

Q: What’s next for you?

I am currently working on a lot of things and I cannot wait to talk about them very soon. A lot of exciting content awaits you!

Q: How did you come up with the idea for your Music video?

When I create my music videos, I always had to be very creative in finding ways to achieve the best-looking results with the limited budget I had. Most of the times I just listen to my songs and picture some visual, that’s where I get the initial inspiration for a potential music video.

Q: Do you have any advice for young music makers like yourself?

Just keep going and have fun. Creating music should never feel like a chore to you. Also, educate yourself with whatever learning methods you have available, whether it be production courses or YouTube tutorials! You can always enhance or build upon your current style!
