Q: Please introduce yourself to the readers and how you first got into this field of work and who were some of your influences growing up?

Hi, my name is Jodie Lo and I am a new upcoming indie-pop artist from Leicestershire, England. I started making music during 2020 after the pandemic caused to me to upheave all of my limiting beliefs about myself. I have always enjoyed music, particularly singing, performing and songwriting from a young age but throughout my teenage years, I lost my confidence and focused on studying science. I still absolutely adored listening to music, particularly Amy Winehouse, Adele, Marina and Lady Gaga, who would later become my influences.

It was only in 2020 when I stopped caring about what other people thought and decided to take up some music lessons that my confidence grew. I’ve spent the last 2 years perfecting my craft in singing, guitar and songwriting, and now I am ready to share my music with the world.

Q: What kind of training have you had, if any?

I have trained for 2 years with a very talented singing teacher called Ruby Jade. In terms of playing guitar and songwriting, I am at the moment entirely self-taught using podcasts and videos but I hope to work with experts in these areas over the coming years.

Q: What has been your favourite project to work on so far?

‘Daisy Chains’ my debut single has to be my favourite project so far as I had the chance to collaborate with some very talented musicians to bring the song, which was originally acoustic guitar and vocals to life. Being in the studio made me feel alive and I loved experimenting with different ideas.

Q: What has been one of the biggest highlights/achievements of your career?

I think for me my single release and seeing it do so well in it’s first few days. All the lovely comments I have received on my work have truly warmed my heart.

Q: If you had a chance to work alongside anybody who would that be?

Lady Gaga, she is my idol after all.

Q: What projects do you have coming up?

This week I am back in the studio filming an acoustic version of daisy chains, so excited to create a stripped-back version. In addition to this, I have already been back in the studio working on single no2 which I think will be the perfect sequel to ‘Daisy Chains’. I can’t wait to release more music.

Q: Who is your inspiration?

Lady Gaga, her dedication to performance and creating unique art is something I aspire to. She just doesn’t care what other people think and that’s what I’ve always loved about her.

Q: What’s the most interesting thing you’ve read or seen this week?

I had the chance to visit Amsterdam this week and it was so interesting to experience a more forward-thinking culture when it comes to personal freedom, design and even transport. I think they are really getting something right over there.

Q: Do you have any advice for young music makers like yourself?

Get rid of all your limiting beliefs so you can stop standing in your own way. You can do anything, seriously.

Q: Do you enjoy performing live?

So far I have only performed live at Jam Nights and Open Mics but I have loved my experiences so far.
