Interview with Music Artist 7imoncello released a new single “Butterfly Tattoo”
7imoncello is a pop artist from Rhode Island. An avid fan of hearty Italian food and drink, her name comes from the liqueur, limoncello, paired with her favorite number, 7. Her favorite artists and influences include Lana Del Rey, Lil Debbie, and Lil Peep. You will often hear her singing about love, heartbreak, and this beautiful yet painful thing we call life.
Q: Hi 7imoncello! Please introduce yourself to the readers and how you first got into this field of work –and who were some of your influences growing up?
Hello! I’m 7imoncello, or “Cam” in real life. I’ve been actively making and releasing music for about a year. A big reason I started is that I got an Akai MPK mini for Christmas in 2018, and instantly became addicted. Music is a great outlet for everything and I love how unlimited yet mathematical it is. Growing up, my favorite band was Guns N’ Roses and I also listened to a lot of my father and older sisters’ favorite bands: Smashing Pumpkins, The Cure, Nirvana, Led Zeppelin, Pink Floyd. We were definitely a rock n’ roll household.
Q: What has been your favourite project to work on so far?
I’m currently working on an 8-track album called “Cherry Jams” and it’s definitely the most fun project yet. I’m producing all of the songs and getting friends and family to feature on it, as well. I love seeing what they come up with.
Q: Your new single ‘Butterfly Tattoo’ is out and who inspired you? Can you talk us through that?
Like the majority of my songs, the lyrics for Butterfly Tattoo came to me within a 30-minute time frame so they kind of just flowed out. It was inspired by how I was feeling at the moment which was sad, nostalgic, but hopeful.
Q: If you had a chance to work alongside anybody who would that be?
Lana Del Rey, without a doubt.
Q: How did you come up with the title?
It just felt right.
Q: What was the recording process for ‘Butterfly Tattoo’?
I was hanging out with my then-boyfriend and his friend, drinking wine. I was kind of buzzed playing around on his Ableton with piano sounds, not really knowing what I was doing. But then he turned it into a beat and I recorded over it a few days later. I was happily surprised with the love this song received.
Q: What artists are inspiring you at the moment?
More than anything hearing what my own friends (IRL and internet) come up with is the biggest inspiration of all, it makes me so happy. In the well-known realm, though, I’d say Lana Del Rey, Phem and Lil Peep. I also love that Ozzy Osbourne is going hard in the pop scene right now.
Q: Who is on your dream list of people to work with?
Lana Del Rey, Lil Debbie, Phem, Slash, and so many more.
Q: What moment are you most proud of?
I would have to say my 26th birthday party this past May in New York. I share a birthday with my older sister so it was a big crowd for a house/apartment party. We were playing my music and when I saw people dancing and vibing to it my heart just exploded.
Q: What are some of your favourite tracks from the EP and why?
From “Welcome to My Castle” it has to be Intro, actually. I feel like it perfectly encapsulated the 7imoncello vibe. From “Ravines + Rain + Ocean Sand” Ravines is my favorite, just because I’m proud of it.
