An Interview with Singer Denise Renee Caplock

Biography:

Denise Renee Caplock is a true renaissance woman: a Recording Artist, Songwriter, Producer and Publisher with songs currently charting in the Hip Hop realm, she is also the President and CEO of Collinscrest Entertainment Group. Born into a musical family, she grew up surrounded by passionate musicians, most notably her mother who was a gospel singer signed to the Scepter record label in the 1960s.

Born and raised in Staten Island, New York, Denise grew up singing in church, and went on to join Staten Island-based group Status 7. After the group disbanded, Denise struck out on her own and worked with several renowned producers such as Kenton Nix, Freddy Bastone, Jared Hoffman and Chester Simmons, among others. This experience sparked a deep interest into the workings of the music industry, and she landed an internship at the former 98.7 KISS FM working with Kool DJ Red Alert and Jeff Foxx, under the direction of legendary radio programmer Tony Gray.

In this exclusive interview for Medium, Denise Renee Caplock tells us how to she explores music inspirations and plans for the future.

Q: Please introduce yourself to the readers and how you first got into this field of work — and who were some of your influences growing up?

My Name is Denise Renee Smith and My Stage Name Is Denise Renee Caplock. I’m a singer/songwriter, producer/ DJ and Label Owner. I come from a musical family so that’s What landed me into the music business. My musical influences were Dionne Warwick, Luther Vandross, Barbara Streisand, BabyFace and Whitney Houston.

Q: What kind of training have you had, if any?

Most of my training came from school and Church.

Q: What has been your favourite project to work on so far?

I couldn’t choose. All of my projects are my favorite.

Q: How did you get the gig?

Hard work and being persistent.

Q: What sports do you enjoy watching?

Boxing

Q: What has been one of the biggest highlights/achievements of your career?

My biggest achievements have been charting alongside the likes of Kanye West, David Guetta, Rihanna, Drake and many others. I’d also say that being able to link up with Rob Schwartz Ceo Of Who? Mag Distribution has opened up more opportunities for my music to be heard around the world. Working with “Mr Mig Tight” Migliore Is a game-changer. Gino Corprale Of 418 Music is a part of the team.

Q: How did you come up with the idea for your Music video?

The idea for my music video is based on the actual lyrical content of the song. It’s in production now.
