An Interview with music Artist G Watts
First up, tell us a bit about yourself — what first got you into music?
I used to write love letters and poems to my crush in grammar school that’s kinda how I started putting rhymes together, lol.
Were there any particular bands or artists you took inspiration from?
My older brother was a Fugees fanatic growing up, he’d play all their music in the crib growing up and I was heavily influenced by them. Nas, Fab, Jay-Z, Kanye, PAC, Kendrick, Biggie and Andre 3k are amongst my favorites.
How would you describe your musical style?
I’d say I’m a chameleon, I blend in with any instrument.
If you could collaborate with any living artist, who would it be?
I’d love to work with Kanye and Pharrell. I have so many ideas that I think they’re the only individuals that can help me bring them into fruition.
Tell us about your new single, ‘Why You Mad’. What’s it about, what are its themes?
Why You Mad is basically a theme record dismissing the Naysayers, and the doubters. Anyone winning in life can relate to this record.
When did you write it and where did you record it?
I wrote and recorded Why You Mad at SFR studios which me and my partner manage.
How do Why You Mad represent your style?
Why You Mad represents my style because I’m a chameleon. And that beat is unorthodox and when I heard it I knew I had the opportunity to do something special with it.
What are your hopes for ‘Gods Way’?
I want to get the record more exposure because I feel like many can relate to the theme.
What can you tell us about your plans for the rest of 2019?
For the rest of 2019 I plan on performing more and releasing more dope records not just for the moment but timeless pieces
Finally, if you could go back in time and give yourself one piece of advice, when would it be and what would you say?
It would be 2010 after I’d just graduated high school. I’d focus more on learning about the business side of music because that the most essential aspect of it all!!!
