An exclusive Interview with rising music start Nikol
We had the pleasure to interview fast rising start Nikol Star from St.Louis who just released P$rty and Post her epic new single here at huffing Post. Make sure to check out her interview and music exclusively here on Huffing Post…
First up, tell us a bit about yourself — what first got you into music?
I’m from St. Louis grew up in Jennings. Started music when I was 11 playing my first instrument, voila. As I got older I started playing with different types of equipment and made my own beats. In high school, I had recorded my first single called Nightmare and performed it on my sweet 16 birthday. I have made over 80 beats recorded 30 songs and now build a home studio.
Were there any particular bands or artists you took inspiration from?
One artist that inspired me was Queen Latifah. I love her flow and the stories inside her music. Her music is universal to where everyone can relate and enjoy.
How would you describe your musical style?
My music style is a hip hop with a twist of old school flow and trap. I grew up listening to nothing but hip hop rap and r&b male singers. I have stories and life lessons but I also want you to turn up.
Why the name ‘Nikol Star’?
The name Nikol Star is who I am. Nikol is my middle name and everyone in my family would say that one day I am going to a Star. So I took my middle name Nikol and put Star at the end.
If you could collaborate with any living artist, who would it be?
I would definitely like to collaborate with Jaden Smith. His wordplay is without a doubt dope and his vibe from his music is amazing.
Tell us about your new single, What’s it about, what are its themes?
P$Rty and Post is just about how you see so much on social media. People partying and posting. So if you are going to party and post then do it better then anybody.
When did you write it and where did you record it?
I wrote it after a nap I took. In my dream, I kept saying party and post so I keep a note pad by my bed and I wrote the three words down. I played a beat that was supposed to go to another and said the words and it clicked. I recorded in my studio.
How does ‘P$rty & Post’ represent your style?
P$Rty and Post is anything can happen. There’s no right or wrong. My style is not what you normally see from a female rapper but it represents the fun and cool side of me. I have always been the cool kid.
What are your hopes for ‘P$rty & Post’?
I want soft female rappers to know that you can do it. You can make whatever dream come true. I want people to hear this song and know that you are great. Have fun and just being you.
What can you tell us about your plans for the rest of 2019?
I am currently working on an album called “Can’t Take It, Serious”. Which will be coming out this summer. I plan on doing some shows soon and working on some collaborations with other upcoming artists too.
Finally, if you could go back in time and give yourself one piece of advice, when would it be and what would you say?
One thing I would say to myself is that great things will happen when you graduate from high school and that the work you putting in is paying off you just got it to give it time. I would also tell myself to stay strong and that your circle will get smaller.
