Your song ‘Ännu Mer’ is about to come out, as I don’t speak Swedish, what are the lyrics about?
The song Ännu Mer is a song about people not being satisfied with what they have. They forget what’s important and do whatever it takes to get the thing, the job, the deal or whatever, not caring what they have to sacrifice. So in the end perhaps you are considered “Successful” but you are standing alone, without any close friends or love. The last line of the lyrics loosely translates as “But why am I standing here all alone” and the “friends” reply, “Because you are just a shadow of who you once were….”
How did you write that killer guitar riff?
This particularly riff came to me on a late-night actually. We had a rehearsal and the others had gone home. I had written the verse on the same day and suddenly — when I was just about to go home — I “heard it” in my head. I had to reconnect my guitar and to get it out. It was something that subconsciously grew on me during the day and just emerged there and then. It spoke to me :-)
Are you co-writing the songs with outside writers?
No, the base of the song is all done by me. After I have a demo version of all instruments and vocals, I show it to the rest of the band, then our lead vocalist trims the lyrics and the melody and we write the harmonies for the backing vocals together. Then we re-record everything a couple of times, taking the version home, listen to it, and come back with feedback. After we are all satisfied we do the real recording and send it to our producer for external feedback.
What is the band doing during Covid-19?
During Covid-19 we have worked on our live show, and recorded new material and also been working with our image and profile of the band. We have done things both as a group and individually, always staying safe. Staying in communication to be sure that noone is ill.
Where did you get the band name ‘Pressure’ from?
Our lyrics are all about different kinds of Pressure. Group pressure, pressure you feel in different situations, or how to handle Pressure. The songs try to handle different subjects that some people find hard or uneasy to speak about. The song Ännu mer is such an example, that people perhaps say that they will never be in that way, but when they get the chance….
Any last words?
It’s a bit scary to write and share this kind of music because it’s very close to or even taken directly from reality. Every song and every note has a meaning for us. We want to make a difference, we want people to be able to handle ‘the Pressure’.
