AN EXCLUSIVE INTERVIEW WITH ALEX WEALTH
Q: Firstly, tell us a little about yourself — how did you get into music?
I'm Tru wealth aka Alex Wealth the Mathematician, I honestly believe my church and middle school got me into music. I feel like any child with music in his blood, who gets to see a live band every week and gets to sit with the musicians, would grow into some sort of musician. I also remember talent shows as a kid that inspired me too, imagine drumming on desks and winning talent shows, beating kids who had whole bands and real instruments.
Q: Are there any particular artists or musicians you were inspired by?
Yup, I remember making beats on fruity loops like 5 lol and hearing Drumma boy’s beats and trying to make southern style beats, I used to listen to a lot of outcast and Tupac a lot too, I believe that's why I’m a poetic writer as apposed to anything else. It was crazy for me to end up an engineer at Drum Squad and collaborating with Drum and Ensayne, God rest his soul. Ensayne’s the person who told me to add bridges to my beats one day whole we were cooking up one together. I never stopped adding bridges to my beats.
Q: How would you describe your musical style?
I’d consider myself a hip — POP artist, trap but not trap, R&B but not super soft, hybrid music I guess you’d say. My beats are mainly hybrid too, lots of changes, usually a bridge somewhere in there, depending on the type of beat of course.
My musical style is light, but I love making and hopping on dark sounding beats.
Q: If you could collaborate with any artist dead or alive, who would it be?
I gotta do a song with Mary J Blige. Hands down must be done.
Q: Tell us about your new project, ‘Paranoid’. What’s it about, what are its themes?
Paranoid to me is about the rise, and being able to understand the difference between friends and foe, help and hurt, and loyalty… oh yeah and about gettin to your own bag. I believe of the 8 songs that are there, it has something for everyone, club joint, R&B joint, something for the streets, rockstar music … whatever you like.
Q: When did you write Paranoid and where did you record Paranoid?
Paranoid the EP was written in Atlanta at our studio Wealth ENT. Written produced recorded and mixed by myself. Produced by Tru Wealth actually.
Q: Tru wealth and Alex Wealth is the same person right, why the name change?
Basically yes, so Tru Is the producer name, all my producer credits go to Tru Wealth and as of 2019 all of my music song releases and features will be released under Alex Wealth. There’s a lot behind it, but basically Alex is more universal and sounds more intriguing. Tru is urban, my behind the scenes alter ego. So I wanted to have both.
To me Tru Wealth is the illest producer name, its almost poetic, “ produced by Tru Wealth” it’s like saying made by real money, or even created by something that actually matters in life.
Q: What are your hopes for ‘Paranoid’?
I would love to chart on the billboard, that would be amazing, even if I’m number 99 I don’t care. I also would love to see Melody, which is a song I wrote for my wifey Melody, to become a household favorite, someone should get married to that song, have their first dance to it or something.
Q: What can you tell us about Drop It Or Stop It and your plans for the rest of 2019?
Drop it or stop it is my radio stations flagship show. It’s a music review show that helps develop artists, connect them and give them opportunities. I have famous and accoladed industry professionals and investors come on the show and listen to peoples music, critique it and give honest feedback, advice on their career and help develop talent. The show airs every Monday at pm Eastern. My plan is to push full speed for the last quarter and a half and expand the Wealth empire.
